Mrs. Freda H. Johnson
Freda Gywn Hargrove Johnson was born on October 29, 1959, in Moore County, North Carolina, to the late Theola Jacqueline and James Elijah Hargrove. She was educated in the Public School System of Moore County. While attending school, Freda worked as a bus driver for the school system. After graduating from Pinecrest High School in 1977, she furthered her education in the community college system majoring in childhood development and the medical technology. She was employed with Educare Childcare and the Penick Village for a number of years, among other jobs she held.
At an early age, Freda dedicated her life to Christ, and attended St. Peter’s UCOG. During her tenure at St. Peter’s UCOG, Freda was involved with the Sunshine Band, and she sang in the choir for many years. She truly loved the Lord and singing His praises.
On September 2, 1978, Freda was joined in Holy Matrimony to Harley E. Johnson. As a loyal wife, she followed her husband and joined St. Matthews Church Of God, founded by Jesus Christ, St. John, Mt. Zion, and Action For Christ Ministries, where she served as First Lady, and made herself helpful in every area of the ministry. She also blessed the world with her talented singing with Bishop Johnson and witnesses.
On Thursday, August 26, 2021, Freda went home to be with Jesus; she saw the city and just could not resist. She leaves to cherish many fond memories, her loving husband, Harley Johnson; three children, Roderick, Courtney, and Natavia (Darrnell); four grandchildren, Devontae, Imani, Zamari, Talailo, and DaJuan; four brothers, Morris of Rochester, NY, Harvey (Cozette) of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Frankie and Alfonzo, both of North Carolina; three sisters, Charlene Hollingsworth (Victor), Faye Horn, both of the Eastwood Community, West End, NC, and Jean Square (Isaac) of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to her late parents, Freda was also preceded in death by three of her siblings, Charles Hargrove, Yvonne Purcell, and Jeffery Hargrove.
